October 23, 2004

The Monument received over 0.8 inch of rain last week. I got out on the GS and rode around some. I found all the major roads mostly dry and hard, save for the odd damp rut here and there. Soda Lake and Elkhorn roads are both in good shape. It was cool in the monument today, but great riding conditions. A few bird hunters were out and about. The photo below is overlooking the Eklhorn Plain at the southern end of the monument today.

Additional update: 10/28/04 The Monument has now received a total of 2.71 inches of precipitation this month. Last year's total for October was under 0.5 inch. This may fortell a great spring flower show! In the meantime, be wary of the roads in the central regions of the plain as they tend to get a little spongy with this much rain!

I was accompanied for a while by these two today.
Between Pipeline and Quail Springs roads today, looking North.

I've managed to find a couple of more links to the data from the RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Station) in the monument. Check the weather page.

Cheers to all!

Walt
